According to new research scientists found diabetes and heart diseases can be diagnosed by using a special light. Researchers from netherlands found a tool that diagnoses high blood sugar levels simply by analysing the pattern of fluorescent light reflected of the skin.

This new test is easier and quicker than the current methods that includes blood tests and assessing risk factors such as people’s weight and family history. This method works with certain protein molecules in skin and other tissues,

The protein called AGE’s are linked to high blood sugar, stiff arteries, and raised blood pressure.
In their study researchers analysed 70,000 participants who were free of diabetes and heart diseases. After a four years 1056 participants were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, 1258 were diagnosed with heart diseases.

In the result it shows AGE levels were higher in patients who were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and heart diseases. This occured even after adjusting for factors such as age, blood pressure, smoking etc.
